CSA Deliveries: Week of August 31st, September 14th, October 5th
Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes connected with the community. The growers and consumers provide mutual support and share the risks and benefits of local, healthy food production.
Every other week, you will receive a large box (1/3 bushel, approximately 12-15 lbs.) of the best of what we've harvested that week. You will receive three boxes between August and October. Our orchard is home to over 30 varieties of apples, both modern and old fashioned - varieties perfect for fresh eating, baking, cooking, and storage into the winter months.
Some of the varieties you can expect to see include: Honeycrisp, Zestar, Firesides, Tydeman Reds, Vikings, Northwest Greenings, Paula Reds, Haralson, Cortland, and more! All of these apples are certified organic and by purchasing a CSA share you will save substantially compared to grocery store prices. Not sure how to use these varieties? Check out our Apple Varieties page for details on each apple in your box plus recipes!
A bushel is 40 to 45 lbs. of apples. You will receive three 1/3 bushel boxes of apples between September and October. Each CSA box is about 1/3 of a bushel or 12 to 15 lbs. of apples depending on the varieties that are ripe. Does a 1/3 bushel sound like too much for you? Many of our customers purchase a CSA share, then split the box with a friend, a neighbor, or their family.

Our certified organic growing methods emphasize apples that taste amazing and are gentle on the environment to grow. Like much of nature, they are imperfect but we think there is beauty in that imperfection, and also some pretty amazing flavor. We are scouting our orchard every few days and we pay close attention to the quality and taste of our apples. (Yes, we sample a lot of apples!) This allows us to harvest them at the peak of their lifecycle, which is another reason why they taste amazing! Some of the blemishes on the skin are just that, a blemish, and have no effect on the taste.
Store your organic apples in the refrigerator, please! They do not continue to ripen after picked, and with proper storage you can help preserve the quality of the fruit. A lovely bowl on the table is nice for decoration or to remind you how tasty they are, but it is tough on organic apples that love to be cool and moist. Your apples will keep for several weeks, in cold storage.
Some varieties will soften as they age, but are still wonderful for cooking. If you have an old-fashioned cool-room, root cellar, or cold basement, that’s great too.
This recipe calls for an older variety, the Winesap, try Honeycrisp or SweeTango for this recipe.
