Graham Cracker Brown Betty
A baked apple dish with a brown butter sauce, easy and delicious. :) Serves 6.
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1 qt. sliced tart apples
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup hot water
INSTRUCTIONS:
Blend melted butter and graham cracker crumbs.
Combine apple slices, grated, lemon rind, lemon juice, nutmeg, brown sugar, and water.
Butter a small casserole. Add alternate layers of crumb and apple mixtures. Cover and bake 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours.
Reduce to LOW, stir again, and cook, covered, for 8-9 hours (overnight works great).
Serve warm with butter sauce.
Butter Sauce
INGREDIENTS:
1 egg
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
Beat whole egg until light. Gradually add sugar. Beat well. Fold in melted butter. Serve immediately.
